Car Tip: DIY Brake Pad Replacement Save Money with This Simple Fix

Brake Caliper Care

First, remove the caliper bolts. The two inner screws will probably come loose. I’m showing this on a Mazda 3, so here’s a nice diagram to help you. The caliper bolt is marked No. 4 and the caliper is marked No. 5. You may need to hold the sliding pin with a box wrench or pliers to loosen the screw.

Do not remove the brake caliper from the brake line. Also be careful not to damage the brake lines. I like to hang the brake caliper from the front shock spring out of the way. This can be done with a zipper or a short piece of wire. I have some IKEA S hooks that were originally intended for hanging pots and pans on my kitchen shelf, but I use them for everything in my garage. One of these works perfectly to hang the caliper safely out of the way.
